I’m in the market for coffee to try in Canada and decided to give Starbucks Caffè Verona Dark Roast Coffee a go. As a Jamaican native, one of the things I have never had to worry about is accessing good coffee. I was born and raised where some of the world’s best coffee is grown and harvested (Blue Mountain Coffee), so Starbucks Caffè Verona Dark Roast Coffee got caught in the crosshairs of my hunt for a new favourite coffee brand.
I brought coffee from Jamaica to Canada with me, but the joy ride ended much too soon. Not to be a snob, but Jamaican coffee is elite. I needed coffee that was going to match my needs without requiring several top-ups a day.

I like Starbucks coffee, but to be honest, I’ve found the in-store brews in North America to be very weak. I had no real reason to give the roast a try, except that I am familiar with the brand. Baby, I’ve never been so glad to be wrong!
I got two flavours. Starbucks Caffè Verona Dark Roast Coffee and Starbucks Pike Place Medium Roast. I figure I might as well cover my bases with a medium and a dark roast. I happened to pop the Caffè Verona Dark Roast Coffee first. Maybe because I thought it was pretty.

How I make It
The one I bought was ground. I’d typically use a coffee maker in Jamaica but I have portable French press cups that I brought with me from home. So I add steaming water to the roast and cover it for three to five minutes. Then I apply the press and add Silk Almond Vanilla for Coffee creamer (no dairy for me) and sugar. It’s so good!
I also have been enjoying it cold by adding hot water first for a little brew and the n adding cold water and ice along with the creamer and sugar to make ice coffee. This is definitely something I will enjoy more during the summertime when it’s not -17°C. I am so looking forward to that!
My Thoughts on Starbucks Caffè Verona Dark Roast Coffee
Scent
When I make my coffee in the mornings, I love to smell it all around my kitchen. I get that from the Starbucks roast. The scent is exotic and rich. When I smell it before I have a sip, my tastebuds and nerves wake up and anticipate the taste.
Taste
It’s been a while since my coffee made men dance. It’s strong, smooth, rich, sweet and definitely a dark roast brew. When the taste hit my tongue, I have to tell you. I’ve only had coffee that good from Europe!
Overall Thoughts
