For most people, Covid 19 and the resulting work from home order sent parents into a tail spin. Strictly speaking, when it comes to remote working, the future is already here. There’s a saying, that when you are young you have the time and energy to do the things to want to do. When you are at the peak of your life, you have the money and the energy to do the things you want to do but no time. And finally, in retirement, you have the money and the time but no energy.
The Remote Employee
Today, millennials aren’t interested in the mundane ‘work to die’ routine but are actively interested in pursuing lives outside of the regular 9-5. Consequently, more and more people are now requiring income streams to be streamlined around them, not the other way around as was the case in previous years. This has given rise to the concept of remote working, where people are able to live wholesome lives while still making a living by working from anywhere with an internet connection. and with it trillion dollar industries such as freelancing. Additionally, careers in areas centred on remote working such as digital marketers, branding and content specialist, virtual assistants In the age of instantaneous communication fuelling our lifestyles, remote working enables many individuals to thrive, cultivating the ultimate work-life balance.
The Remote Employer
Remote work doesn’t just benefit the employee. Employers who choose to hire remote teams stand to gain substantially by reducing overhead costs when they hire a partially or entirely remote team. Large, stationary office spaces are not only more expensive and can represent a huge liability, more expenses to maintain, and employees within them require benefits such as insurance and job security. Additionally, monthly utilities are to be expected. A remote team can be had entirely on contract, thereby allowing the employers to minimize expenditure without compromising on talent and workload. By employing remote teams, particularly if the firm relies on a small team, such as single digits. In 2017, many companies are formed and operate entirely online. There is also the additional benefit to employers by not being limited in the =ir choice of hire due to geography. Coworking and Remote Working
Another interesting worldwide phenomenon arising from remote workers is that entrepreneurs have found a market for coworking spaces. Largely used by online companies, freelancers, and other ‘floating’ business personnel, a coworking space is a space where an individual or business can go to work in a ‘shared’ office space. This service is usually offered at a per visit or monthly fee, depending on the frequency of the user. Other services are also provided such as business meeting and conference meeting spaces, professional mingles, among others. A coworking space, though in itself offers a physical location to the remote workers, also offers more, such as a mailing and business address for companies that do not have a physical address., again, at a cost to the user. This cost can, however, be considered negligent when compared to the alternative, their own physical location.
