When I arrived two years ago, I wanted to know about things to do in Saskatchewan, particularly what to do in Regina, Saskatchewan. As a native Caribbean national, our vibrant, festive culture leaves an undercurrent craving for excitement. Although I did not participate in much of Jamaicaās lively partying and outdoor scene, I realized that I missed (initially) the ability to do those things when I felt so inclined. I resigned myself to the fact that there are things to do in Regina; they are just unfamiliar things. Additionally, every āthings to doā list online mentions the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the Saskatchewan Science Centre, the Legislative Building and the RCMP Heritage Centre.
As interesting as those things are to do the first time, they are not as interesting as repeat activities or something to fill a week with. So, as a new immigrant and ālocalā, I thought it would be interesting to highlight a few things without repeating the above-mentioned. Letās do it!

Visit the Festivals, Art Galleries and Theatres
Saskatchewan has a rich artistic culture. Regina alone has over a dozen art galleriesāan impressive amount for such a small city, frankly. Between the MacKenzie Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Regina, Slate Fine Art Gallery, the Globe Theatre, Darke Hall, and many other artistic hubs in the city, thereās always a wealth of visual and performance art to take in.

There are also tons of festivals to take including the Mosaic Festival, hosted by the Regina Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan. The cultural festival celebrates the diversity of the city by hosting several cultural pavilions over several days.
See a Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Home Game at Mosaic Stadium
As a Jamaican, the only sport that has ever gotten a natural rise out of me is Track and Field (If you know, you know. Pray for us, Patis Olympics 2024 were rough). I played netball throughout high school and will watch it if it is on, but I won’t look for it. That is to say, Iām not particularly crazy about sports. My husband is the opposite. He loves all things sports, and the first time we passed by the Mosaic Stadium, home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders football team, hubby was ready to walk in off the street.
Moving to Regina, Saskatchewan, from Toronto and Jamaica taught me one thing very quickly. Regina is Rider Nation! You donāt have to wonder when home games are. On those days, the city uniform is white and green (some black, too) Rider apparel. Other colours rarely exist.
We went to our first game last summer, and while we struggle to accept American football as such (soccer is football, stop it), it was a very enjoyable experience. Between the game, snacks, camaraderie, music, and family fun, it was a good time. Never mind that my husband has to explain the actual game to me; it’s still fun. So, definitely put that on your list to go to at least once.

Queen City Ex (QCX)
Queen City Ex (QCX) is an annual summer five-day activity-packed family fair event. With hundreds of exhibitions, rides, games, food, concerts, eating exhibitions and more at the REAL District, you could take the family out every day and still not try everything they have going on. The fair is over 140 years old ā it was started in 1884 ā and it is usually on the last weekend of July. In 2024, our child’s school offered up some free tickets for the kiddos on a first-come, first-served basis, and there was an at-home Rider game that weekend, so we got to see both. Even if you are strapped for cash and wondering what to do in Regina, Saskatchewan, the final QCX day is family day, and entry is free.

Over the Hill Orchard & Winery
This might be cheating, but 30 minutes outside of Regina, overlooking the QuāAppelle Valley is Over the Hill Orchard and Winery. It is serene and a rare shift in Saskatchewanās flat landscape. There is an outdoor patio, and they have some of the most delicious wines and desserts.
I will say, that you may want to time your visit later in the summer or early fall. My first visit was at the end of July and the heat was brutal. We made a note to visit again before the seasonāMay to Octoberāends. I imagine the view of the valley is gorgeous in the fall.

Wascana Centre
There is a lot you can check off your āWhat to do in Regina Saskatchewanā list at Wascana Centre: walking paths, parks and play areas, Wascana Pool, Bar Willow Restaurant, canoeing and kayaking, as well as the trifecta mentioned in my introduction; the Science Ventre, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and yes, the Legislative Building. Even if you choose to do nothing but take a walk or have a picnic, itās fantastic scenery to take in.
Be sure to bring bug spray and/or a mosquito net. The bugs enjoy the warm weather just as much as we do.

Watch Sunrises and Sunsets
Saskatchewanās skies are my favourite landscape feature of the province, and where better to watch a sunrise or sunset than in the Land of the Living Skies?

Visit the Drive-In Movie Theatre
Venturing a bit outside of city limits again is a Drive-in Theatre you can enjoy under those big skies. The weekend-only theatre is in Pilot Butte, 15 minutes outside the city. If the outdoor experience is not for you, you can always catch the next one at one of the cinemas in the city.
Wrapping Up
As a newer resident of the Queen City, there is a lot of quiet charm to this growing place. I hope you find it too when you come here; be it to visit or stay. If you are looking for other resources, Tourism Saskatchewan can help.
Are you a local? Let others know what to do in Regina in the comments, too!
