6 Simple Ways to Look Good Every Day

One of the things I put on my vision board this year is to be more intentional about self-care—so I wanted to find simple ways to look good every day. I want to be more intentional about the little things that help me feel better. It is no small task for the millennial woman enjoying having it all–marriage, children and a career–and titivating. While external pressure exists for women to always look their best, that is not what this post is about. This is about how we look and how it influences how we feel.

While carting off for hours for self-care is enjoyable for some women, I can’t say it is for me. I enjoy the result a great deal, but what about the process? Not so much. So, I always look for ways to look good without much work.

I am a simple gal. I don’t need much to feel good. I don’t beat my face every time I go out, and I don’t care about trending fashion, etc. (There is nothing wrong with that.) That said, I like to look nice. But I don’t have the time and don’t want the extensive work that can come with feminine upkeep. That is, I am all for lazy girl maintenance. So, of course, I am all for simple ways to look good every day.

6 Ways to Look Good Every Day and Feel Like It

1. Grooming

Let’s start with the basics. Maintaining good hygiene with regular showers, brushing your teeth, wearing clean clothes, deoderant, etc.are essentials and the bare minumum.

2. Daily Skincare

Glowing skin can boost a woman’s confidence like nothing else. Even a minimalist skincare routine can brighten your features if you spend a few minutes twice a day on it.

3. Keep Well Maintained Hair

A woman’s hair is her crown. It is impossible to look good every day if one’s hair is in disarray. A decade ago, I got my hair done quite frequently. I don’t go to the salon nearly as often anymore. Many things contribute to that – like COVID, being natural and living in a city where I am uncomfortable walking into a salon. That does not signify, though. I don’t know about you, but I feel bad when my hair is a hot mess. I realize the irony of saying that as a natural woman who has not mastered taming my thick mane. I am barely getting by, truth be told. So, I wash, trim, treat, braid and style my own hair.

4. Keep Your Nails Done

I have always enjoyed having my nails done. There is something about a good manicure and pedicure that boosts my inner woman. Once I became a mom, spending hours in a nail salon to get acrylic tips became less appealing—worse still, impractical. These days, I have been enjoying using press-on nails. They are not as sturdy as acrylic (my preference), but when applied right and with UV curing, they last as long as two weeks and boost my confidence. The 30 minutes or so a set takes is completely worth it. Gel X is another great option. They don’t take too long and last until they grow out without chipping.

Despite the above options—they are my preference—having your nails done can be as simple as cleaning, cutting, and shaping them the way you like them, with or without polish or extensions.

5. Get dressed–even when you are not going out

In this modern work-from-home era, getting into a funk is pretty easy. You don’t comb your fair for days, and don’t take your bonnet off because you have no intention of venturing outside. Who is going to see you?

You. That’s who. I don’t know about you, but I feel good when I look good. So grabbing an early morning shower and putting on some day-clothes is a plus for me. Clothes are such simple things that deliver such big feelings.

6. Exercise

Exercise reduces anxiety and depression, is a natural mood booster, and improves self-esteem and cognitive function. One can’t deny that post-exercise generally boosts energy and mental clarity. However, exercise provides obvious physical benefits that improve overall health. Besides, who doesn’t feel better when their body looks and feels snatched? I struggle with the consistency required to reap maximal benefits from exercise. I am working on it, though.

In Summation

Overall, up-keep doesn’t have to be time-consuming or expensive, and it can lead to increased confidence. The 21st centrury os pretty fast paced, so everything needed be massive daily undertakings.

What are some things you do to feel and look good every day? share them in the comments.

  • I’ve recently started getting my nails done on special occasions (previously acrylics, now I’ve just tried gel X) and I really like it. Makes me feel feminine & cute, & I just want to take pics holding things in my hands lol. It’s not practical for my work, housework or new gardening hobby to have false nails but every now and again, I love switching it up. I’m mostly a low maintenance gal.

Absolutely on feeling feminine. When I was a nursing student I was distraught over my inability to have nail extensions. I suppose that should have been a red flag 😂. Thanks for reading, Roch!
