3 Ways to Use Holiday Cards This Season

It’s tiiimmme! (I donned my Mariah Carey voice for this, thank you.) It’s my favourite time of year, and honestly, I am so ready for all of it—from the Christmas tree I’ve already put up to the home decor finds on a budget to the holiday cards and Christmas dinner. Most of all, I’m ready for the downtime with my family. The last two Christmases have been rough on us because we knew my family would leave after the holidays.

The Christmas before that, we weren’t together at all. So yes, I am looking forward to just being together this year. In addition to the tree, throw blankets, mini-Christmas villages and dinner menu, I have toyed with the idea of personalized holiday cards.

Holiday cards are one of the more traditional things that make the holiday season special. We’ve come a long way from picking out random Christmas card designs inside a brick-and-mortar store. With technology being what it is, most of us want our holidays to fit our chosen theme and aesthetic. We can quickly flick our wrists and have custom Christmas cards to complete our holiday plan.

Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers almost unlimited colour options with instant previews online. They also offer an address-capturing service that enables you to share a link on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media to request their friends and family’s addresses, which can then be used to print invitations for weddings, parties or baby showers. The addresses are stored in the customer’s account and can be selected during the design process without an additional cost. Additionally, you can customize with dozens of colours and preview their paper quality.

3 Types of Basic Invite Cards to Use this Holiday Season

1. Family Christmas Cards

No surprise here. I am a paperback, print-the-picture-out kind of millennial gal in the mids of everything digital. A family Christmas card is a great way to memorialize the time, especially when you have children, and share it with your family. (Yea, yea. I am sentimental as hell.) Whether you want to share them with your extended family or keep them as something for your immediate family, I really think it’s a classy touch of something and another way to put those holiday photoshoots to good use. It could even be a lovely way to introduce a new family member!

2. Thank you Cards

Living a life of gratitude is intentional. What better time to show gratitude than during the season of giving? Holiday thank you cards can go a long way to show that you are grateful for something someone has done for you—whether they got you a gift, hosted you and/or your family, showed you kindness, or simply, you are returning the favour of a card given to you. Thank you cards tend to be simpler, so you don’t need photos for them (of course, that’s up to you.)

3. Thinking of You Cards

As much as we think of good cheer when we think of the holidays, for some, that is not the case. Increased rates of depression throughout the holiday season are common. People may have lost loved ones in the years/years passed or may have amplified feelings of loneliness—especially during November and December—referred to as the holiday depression or the holiday blues. Simply letting someone know you are thinking of them with a custom holiday card can do so much to lift a person’s spirit.

Perhaps it’s not even that serious. With tighter budgets all round for gifts, a card may be that perfect in between that can let someone know you were thinking of them in advance, even if there isn’t a gift.

All That to Say…

There is so much we can say with a card as a way to keep up, show gratitude or extend a kind gesture. It really is one of those things that keep the spirit of the holidays alive, even if the world is falling apart.
